Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

CLAT is the national-level entrance test for admission to undergraduate law programmes at 26 National Law Universities in India. It is a test of aptitude — comprehension and reasoning skills necessary for legal education — rather than prior knowledge. The exam is 2 hours, with 120 multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each and a negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer. CLAT 2027 is conducted in offline (pen-and-paper OMR) mode.

Exam date
Eligibility: No upper age limit. Passed 10+2 (or an equivalent examination) with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PwD candidates). Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in March/April 2027 are also eligible, subject to producing proof of passing at the time of admission.
